About XMUSM
The Discipline of Management at Xiamen University (XMU) has a long history which can be traced back to over a century ago from the establishment of The Business Division when XMU was founded in 1921. After a hundred years’ unremitting efforts, inspired by its founder and entrepreneur Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s patriotism and motto of “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection”, the School of Management at Xiamen University (XMUSM), has established itself as one of the Top 10 Business Schools nationwide and are endeavoring to build into world-class business school.
Well-established Disciplines
After rapid development during past century, XMUSM now consists of 6 academic departments, 7 Research Institutes and Centres, 4 Education Centres, 8 Functional Offices and 3 Functional Committees. It offers 8 disciplinary doctoral degree programs (8 PhD degree programs of specialist subjects), 8 disciplinary master degree programs (8 master’s degree programs of specialist subjects), and 3 disciplinary bachelor degree program (9 bachelor degree programs of specialist subjects). The School provides 5 professional Master’s degree programs including MBA, EMBA, ME, MTA, MPAcc.

Incubator of Management Talents
Xiamen University is one of the first universities in mainland China to offer disciplinary doctoral degree program in Accounting, and has trained numerous outstanding Accounting talents and this also includes China’s first PhD student in Economics on accounting. Every year, many students are attracted to XMUSM for further studies due to its highly professional faculty, well-established disciplines, student-oriented care and favorable learning environment. The School has developed batches of management elites since its establishment. By the end of 2020, the School has a total of 8,317 graduates, 18,904 master graduates and 878 PhD students. Approximately half of the graduates from XMUSM are engaged and employed in the fields of Finance, Accounting and Economics, which respectively brings good reputation to XMUSM, known as the veritable Cradle of CFO Talents in China.
XMUSM boasts a total of 180 faculty members (167 of them got doctoral degrees), including 78 full professors, 61 associate professors and 41 assistant professors. The School comprises of a diverse group of prominent business leaders and experts have unparalleled academic support. It is such wealth of knowledge and experience that is incorporated into students’ learning experience and will advance studies here in XMUSM.

Research Excellence
Several decades of hard work has led to great achievements in disciplines and research areas, with some being highly influential both home and abroad, as well as a long list of top-level academic papers, theses and patents, an array of outstanding professors in all kinds of academic research, and plenty of high-quality research teams. During Year 2016 to 2020, faculty have published numerous works in such top tier international journals as Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Review, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Production and Operations Management, Tourism Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Portfolio Management, Review of Statistics and Economics, Journal of Business Ethics, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, and such leading national journals as Economic Research Journal, Management World, and Journal of Management Sciences.

Extensive International Influence
XMUSM has always been serving the society throughout the promotion of talent training and the development of the school, which earnestly fulfills its social responsibilities.

* The Accounting Department and Center for Accounting Studies of XMU have constantly provided consultations for the country to formulate accounting standards. To promote the coordinated development of accounting theory and practice, XMUSM sets up the first "Fujian Accounting Masters Studio" and the Macau Accounting Research Center.

Extensive International Influence
Since its establishment, XMUSM has adopted a global strategy that actively explores opportunities for international cooperation in multiple aspects including student exchange, faculty development, collaborative scientific research, curriculum enhancement, international corporate network. Up to now, XMUSM has co-opeartions with more than 74 well-known universities and research institutions in the world such as Harvard University, Babson College, Northwestern University, National University of Singapore, and The University of Hong Kong, etc; in the meanwhile, it is also a member of ACE Alliance, QTEM Global Masters Network, the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and other international organizations. XMUSM was granted AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB accreditations respectively in 2011, 2013 and 2020, joining the very small circle of 1% business schools which can be awarded this “Triple Crown” worldwide. On May 17, 2020, the “Touching China” 2019 Award Ceremony went on the air on CCTV-1, and professor William N. Brown from XMUSM was conferred the honorary title “person of the year”, which marks the special tribute to the extraordinary builders of a new China. All these honors are recognition of school’s long-term dedication to academic research, talent cultivation and social services. They are also milestones among XMUSM’s journey towards becoming a first-class business school in the world.
