Living Guide in Xiamen University

l XMU e-card

XMU e-card is issued by Xiamen University, combining the functions of the student ID, library, dining, shopping in campus, etc.

A. Functions
With the XMU e-card, you can live and study in XMU easily without taking too much cash or bank cards. XMU e-card involves information about your student number, name, e-card account, your photo and other personal information, which is useful when dining in the campus cafeteria, entering libraries, borrowing books and shopping in campus.

B. Payment and Recharge

Please link your bank account with your e-card in the bank, then you can easily top up your e-card by transferring money from the bank card to e-card on self-service machines near the cafeteria, maximum 500RMB per time. Cash is not accepted for recharging e-cards. The default password is 123456 and you'd better change it on self-service machines and e-card website as soon as you have the card.

l Internet Access

The University WLAN and WIFI is available in overseas students’ dormitory. Please go to China Telecom or China Unicom to purchase the WLAN or WIFI service pack.

For Students who need the Internet service can go to the Xiamen University Information & network services Center with your student card.

l Library

Located to the left of the South Gate, covering an area of 22,000 square meters, the XMU library holds over 2,500,000 volumes of books with 500,000 in foreign languages and the number of volumes grows by 100,000 every year. There are systematic book collections in subjects like economics, management, philosophy, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Besides, XMU library is also for its characteristic materials in Southeast Asian Research and Taiwan Research. More than 40 famous international academic databases are rented or purchased by XMU. Web of Science and other world major academic databases are introduced. Now those databases available in the university LAN contain over 10,000 electronic journals in foreign languages and over 8,000 in language. Meanwhile, the total data amount saved in XMU local servers adds up to 8TB. You can visit the digital library on the Internet or enter the library or borrow the books with your XMU e-card.

l Dining halls

Besides the dining hall and the coffee house on the first and second floor of Cai Qingjie Building, there are many other dining halls or cafeterias providing good meals and services for students. The following are their names and locations:
A．Nanguang Dining Hall near Cai Qingjie Building;
B．Furong and Dongyuan Dining Halls near the XMU Supermarket;
C．Qinye Dinning Hall near the Da Nan Gate.
All the dining halls and canteens are provided with ultra-red sterilizing cupboard, ensuring high standard food hygiene. Students can buy food with XMU e-cards.

l Post Office

Xiada Post Office is at Yanwu Road near the campus. At the West Gate (main gate) of Xiamen University, there is an office for incoming and outgoing mail (Xiada Post Box). Letters sent to the students can be claimed at the reception on the second floor of Caiqingjie Building.
Any parcels sent from abroad can be collected by following procedures:
A. Pick up the Parcel-arrival notice at the dormitory reception;
B. Get the parcel form from Xiada Post Box by showing the Parcel-arrival notice and his/her own ID card;
C. Collect the parcel from Xiada Post Office.

l Banks

Here are Bank of China, China Industrial and Commercial Bank, and China Construction Bank on XMU campus which offer services like currency saving deposit, time deposit, bank transfer, foreign currency transaction, etc.

l Gymnasium and Stadium

There is a 400-meter standard track and field ground to the opposite side of Qunxian Building near the West Gate of the university. In front of the track and field ground, there are ten basketball courts and several horizontal and parallel bars. To the south of the track and field ground, there are tennis courts and volleyball courts. In front of Jiannan Great Hall, students will find the Shangxian (First Quarter of the Moon) Football Field containing two small football pitches where football lovers can demonstrate their ball skills. Besides that, eight new basketball courts have been set up between the Lingyun dormitory complex and Furong 12 dormitory building. Table-tennis rooms are located at Jianwen Building and Cai Qingjie Buildings. There is a swimming pool with standard tracks as well other facilities in the Qing Ming Swimming Gymnasium. In order to swim there, students need a health certificate issued by XMU Hospital and pay by XMU e-card.

Live Off Campus:

Rent an apartment with other exchange students are very popular. You could easily find many modern, high value for price apartments near the campus. You could share the living room, kitchen and bathroom with your roommates, the furniture and household appliance are provided by the landlord.

1. Single Apartment

Type A: 30 Square Meters, 2300 RMB per month for 6 months- 1 year rent; 2600 RMB per month for less than 5 months’ rent.

Type B: 50 square meters, 2600 RMB per month for 6 months-1 year rent; 3000 RMB per month for less than 5 months’ rent.

Rooms: one bed room, one kitchen, one bath room, one balcony

Facilities: Gas Cook, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioning, single bed, hot water heater, wardrobe, desk

2. Two-Bedroom Apartment

5200 RMB per month

Facilities: Kitchen, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioning, single bed, hot water heater, TV, wardrobe, desk, sofa

Rooms: one living room, one washing room, two bed rooms, one balcony

Facilities: Gas Cook, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioning, single bed, hot water heater

Location: Daxue Cheng (大学城) is a commercial residential buildings located next to the main gate (west gate) of XMU and provide nice rooms with necessary household appliances. You can have a good sea view in rooms in high floors.

There are also other types of apartments near Xiamen University, for example, Heng Da Building (恒达大厦) and Zhenzhu Wan Garden (珍珠湾花园), these are also commercial buildings providing apartments, but the tenancy could be varied.

Notes: You can contact Ms. Chen for other rooms types or rooms in other areas. Ms. Chen can introduce you the surroundings nearby and help you with contracts and residence registration form. 3. Temporary residence

Live in Campus

If you are interested in living in student dorms located in the campus, please contact the school coordinator first to register the room or bring your admission acceptance letter to the reception of Cai Qingjie Building. Most of time, the dorms in the campus will be in high demand and reserved for full scholarship students.

Nanguang 4, Nanguang 5 Building and Cai Qingjie Building, located in the center of the main campus are dormitories specially for scholarship students, exchange students, and degreed students. With modern facilities such as air condition, television, telephone, internet access (optional), etc., the buildings provide comfortable accommodation, dining hall, coffee bar, store for overseas students
