Business education and research in Xiamen University has a long history. In 1921, along with the founding of the University, the Department of Business Management was established within the Business Division. In 1985, the Department of Business Management was re-established on the basis of some related majors. Currently, apart from enrolling undergraduates in the areas of business management and human resource management, the Department also enrolls graduate students in business management and marketing and accepts post doctors in business administration.
The Department of Business Management has a well-structured, diverse, young and high-level faculty. Of the 23 full-time faculty members, 8 are professors, 11 associate professors and 4 assistant professors, and 80% of them hold PhD degrees. Over 90% of them have been abroad for academic exchanges, as visiting scholars or receiving a degree. With great efforts by the faculty, the Department of Business Management has accomplished a lot in teaching, research and social services. The Department of Business Management is productive in management researches. In last five years, faculty of the department has published almost 10 papers on journals indexed by SSCI, and 2 of them are in Journals used in FT Research Rank. In last five years, the department has gained almost 10 research projects supported by national research founding.
Business Management was designated as a key discipline of Fujian Province in 1999, and was designated a national key subject in 2007. Since its establishment in 1985, the Department has had almost 3000 undergraduate and more than 800 graduate alumni.
