Faculty Development on Internationalisation
Pedagogical innovation is pivotal to the School’s development, the most pronounced method being cased-based teaching methods. For historical reasons, Chinese universities have given less attention to case-based teaching and its application. SMXMU was the first business school in Mainland China to introduce and practise case method teaching. Since 2006, the School has annually sent faculty abroad for training in case-based teaching at HBS’ PCMPCL and GCPCL training and Babson College’s Global Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education Programme. After more than 10 years of continuous promotion, case method teaching has now become the most prevailing teaching approach for professional master's degree programmes in business schools. To implement the localisation strategy, the School has over the past 5 years vigorously encouraged its faculty to develop new cases of local enterprises. In 2018, the School collaborated with Richard Ivey School of Business to launch research on local business cases to facilitate the localisation strategy of the School’s management research.
The School also encourages faculty to explore innovative teaching methods by attending various teaching trainings. For instance, the School annually sends faculty to attend the LBA (Learning by Action) training held by Babson College. Till now, a total number of 159 faculty members have attended teaching trainings held by Harvard Business School, Babson College, Ivy Business School, etc.
